Summary of Lindsey Elmore video

We will be comparing Young Living’s five enzyme products:

What is an enzyme?

Enzymes are substances produced by living organisms that act as catalysts which are important because they take starting materials and turn them into ending products which don’t change. This reaction would have happened without the enzyme, however, that reaction happens a lot faster with the enzyme in place.

Enzymes…

  • are responsible for every chemical reaction in the body;
  • allow our cells to build up and break down molecules quickly;
  • drive vitamins, minerals and hormones into areas that help to serve the body;

Why do we need to augment our diet with enzymes?

Diets, especially those high in processed foods, deplete our enzymes. Even raw foods can inhibit our enzyme functions if we’re not feeling great, if we exercise a lot, temperature extremes…all of it affects our enzyme function.

Additionally, enzyme levels drop with age. And the excretion of enzymes happens faster as we age. So as we age we have less and less enzymes to work with.

Essentialzyme-4

Essentialzymes-4 comes in a box and it has two capsules per dose. One of these time-release technology capsules are animal-based and the other is plant-based. That dual time release means that it can be metabolized in different parts of the digestive tract.

The yellow capsule is immediate-release…it doesn’t have the time-release coating. It contains…

  • proteases – prote = protein, ase = break it down (anytime you see a word that ends in “ase“, it is usually an enzyme).
  • amylase – generally found in the mouth to help break down starches.
  • phytase – also helps to break down some starches.

The white capsule has essential oils plus lipases…

  • lipase – lip = fat, ase = break it down

Most people tend to take these around mealtime because they have both the immediate and long-term actions.

Essentialzyme

Essentialzyme is a dual-layered tablet that is animal-based. It is a delayed form of enzymes coated in HPMC which helps it stay intact through the stomach so it can get deeper into the digestive tract.

Essentialzyme is unique among all of the other Young Living enzyme products because it is the only one that contains pancrealipase (pancrea = pancreas, lip = fat, ase = break it down). This helps support the normal function of the pancreas. Pancreatic enzymes not only break down fats, but proteins and starches from food into smaller substances so they can be better absorbed into the intestines.

Essentialzyme also contains trypsin, betaine, as well as bromelain which is a naturally occurring enzyme from the stem of the pineapple.

This is something I take every morning simply to make sure I have some good enzymes throughout the day. Whereas you might choose to take Essentialzymes-4 closer to meals.

Allerzyme

Allerzyme is the first of the fully vegetarian enzyme products. It is unique because it contains maltase and lactase. Maltase breaks down a special sugar called maltose. (Anything ending with “ose” is a sugar. Other examples are fructose, sucrose, lactose.) So that lactase in Allerzyme breaks down lactose.

Allerzyme is also unique in that it contains a-galactosidase which breaks down alpha-galactosyl, a which is a carbohydrate in beans that can be very hard for some people to digest.

Allerzyme also contains that highest number of essential oils.

Detoxzyme

Detoxzyme is a fast-acting vegetarian supplement. This is one that works well when taken with meals verses Allerzyme which you may take any time because it is delayed-release. Detoxzyme has the fewest essential oils and the fewest herbs. So if someone is very sensitive to essential oils or chooses not to use essential oils by mouth, they may want to consider Detoxzyme.

MightyZyme

MightyZyme is specially designed for children. It is all-natural and vegetarian. It is a chewable tablet that can help to support a child’s natural ability to digest foods, including proteins, carbohydrates, and fats.

MightyZyme contains several types of protease (prote = proteins, ase – break it down). It has amylase to break down special carbohydrates in the mouth, peptidase to break down peptides, lipase to break down fats, and cellulase to help break down cellulose (a special sugar found inside plant material that humans are not able to digest).

Simplifying the Decision Tree

  • Vegetarians will want to look at Allerzyme and Detoxzyme.
  • Someone who needs immediate support around meals should consider Detoxzyme and Essentialzymes-4.
  • Delayed-release options are Essentialzyme and Allerzyme.
