ANA stewardess serves yuzu juiceI fell in love with Yuzu juice served on ANA Airlines. Yuzu juice has a rich, lemon-orange taste with a unique aroma and flavor. Yuzu citrus trees grow on the cool, misty, hillsides and slopes of Shikoku’s mountainous terrain. Yuzu fruit is loved by the Japanese people for its aroma and taste.

Processing YuzuIn 2012, Shinriki and I returned to Shikoku, Japan to finalize a deal to purchase Yuzu essential oil. Yuzu essential oil is hydrodistilled from the frozen rinds of Yuzu fruit (a local Yuzu juice factory stores the frozen rinds). I tested the Yuzu essential oil from other distilleries and found they were inferior in aroma and taste from the Shikoku distillery.

Our Food Scientists spent two years developing, refining, taste testing, and biological testing of 121 proposed formulas for the new NingXia Red. Four essential oils, Orange, Lemon, Tangerine, and Yuzu, were fortified in the highest concentration possible in the final formula of the new NingXia Red. In October 2012, the new formulation and bottle look for NingXia Red was launched with Yuzu essential oil as a featured ingredient.
