Frequently Asked Questions
- Q. What are UVA and UVB rays? Does this sunscreen provide protection from both types?
A. Sunlight consists of two types of rays that reach the earth: UVA rays and UVB rays. The American Academy of Dermatology says it is important to choose a sunscreen that blocks both types of rays. Our Mineral Sunscreen Lotion provides broad-spectrum protection, which means it protects from both UVA and UVB rays. - Q. What does SPF mean?
A. SPF stands for “sun protection factor,” and it measures how well a sunscreen protects the skin from UVB rays. Since SPF values don’t include UVA protection, it’s also very important to choose a sunscreen that offers broadspectrum protection, like our Mineral Sunscreen Lotion. This means that the sunscreen also blocks UVA rays.

Mineral Sunscreen Lotion: Syntheitc-Free Sun Security
It’s easier to remember sunscreen in the summer. The glaring heat is a quick reminder that your skin needs a shield, but protection from UVA and UVB rays is important no matter the time of year.
With our members in min, we created an over-the-counter sun solution using naturally derived plant- and mineral-based ingredients. With the physical UV blocker non-nano zinc oxide, alongside skin-loving essential oils, our sunscreen gives you confidence without using harsh chemicals.
As we formulated this product, it was important for us to create a sunscreen using non-nano zinc oxide. There’s a growing trend to include nanomaterials in health and beauty products. However, given their high level of reactivity and the facts that nanoparticles are so small that they can get into skin pores, pass through cell membranes, and enter the bloodstream where they might have unknown effects—even when those nanoparticles come from natural materials—we wanted to provide our members with a product they don’t have to worry about.
Unlike some zinc oxide formula, Young Living’s Mineral Sunscreen Lotion is lightweight and smooth, and it doesn’t leave the familiar white residue. Other hypoallergenic ingredients include buriti fruit oil, ucuuba nut butter, and Helichrysum, Carrot Seed, and Frankincense essential oils—so you know your skin is in for a treat!
Our new Mineral Suncreen Lotion also provides broad-spectrum SPF 10 protection for up to 80 minutes and is sweat- and water-resistant, so you can play plenty before you have to reapply. So whether you’re surfing, hiking, gardening, skiing, or snowshoeing, you can keep your skin protected from the sun’s rays.

Oxybenzone is more toxic to plants when those plants are exposed to sunlight. In other words, the very reason that we wear sunscreen makes our sunscreen uniquely toxic to coral reefs.
