EssentialOilSage Note: This news seems to put Young Living in the Top 20 MLM companies according to sales volume based upon the DSN’s Top 100 for 2015.
Why is Young Living not on the list? Not sure. Here’s some speculation…
- This list is based upon 2014 numbers. Young Living was not in the Billion Dollar Club until 2015. But still, its sales were certainly more than most of the companies on that list.
- Young Living only became a member of the much respected Direct Sellers Association (DSA) in 2015. But I’m certain that many on the list aren’t DSA members.
- Perhaps many of the companies are public, i.e., shares are bought and sold on the stock market. Thus, sales figures are a matter of public record anyway. Young Living is privately-owned by Gary Young so there is no requirement for public reporting of sales figures.Related note: Gary Young was approached about taking the company public some years ago. But bean counters considered the farms a burden and encouraged them to be sold off so Young Living could become a pure marketing play. Gary refused. He understood that concern for quality would take a back seat. Consider the implications for the publicly traded companies on that list.
- The text introducing the list says, “We thank all the companies that willingly participated in our survey…” Perhaps Young Living simply chose not to participate in the survey. And since it is a private company, DSN researchers had no access to public data to help them reach a reasonable figure.
