The tallest of all the pines, this species is native to western North America. The ponderosa pine gains its fragrant scent from an abundance of terpenes.<\/p>\n<p>Traditionally, Native Americans used various parts of the ponderosa pine for ceremonies, food, and buildings, while the resin was used for supporting the skin.<\/p>\n<p>Needles were used as dermatological aids, and the three boughs were used to soothe overworked muscles.
